The department has pioneered research, development and education in the field of Agricultural Engineering in the country. It offers a B.Tech. (Hons.) degree in Agricultural and Food Engineering, an integrated dual degree programme leading to a five-year M.Tech. degree in addition to joint M.Tech.- Ph.D. degrees in several areas of Agricultural and Food Engineering. Undoubtedly, the department has played the most significant role in contributing to the human resources development in agricultural and food engineering sector in the country.

The new millennium is the epoch of industrialization and innovation is the yardstick of development. As is said many times, agriculture has to be industrialized and infused with innovation for any country to propel itself from a developing to a developed nation. India will not be an exception. Placed within one of the finest engineering institutes of the country, our department has the potential to bear the responsibility for providing engineering knowledge and technology to agricultural communities particularly in a nation like ours where about 15% of gross national product (GNP) comes from the agricultural sector. This brochure briefly enlists our faculty strengths, facilities and summarizes current research and development activities of the department.
