The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur is one of the leading academic institutions for science, engineering and technology in India, and possibly, in the world. Founded in 1951 at the infamous 'Hijli Detention Camp' to fulfill the new nation's need for trained technical personnel, IIT Kharagpur has grown to be one of the largest and most diversified technological institutions in India during the last 60 years imparting education of the highest standards in the country both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
